Mould can grow when there is sufficient moisture on a surface or humidity in the air. Common causes include leaking roofs, walls, blocked gutters, downpipes, faulty plumbing or lack of ventilation. 

In this circumstance, the commercial premise was suffering with mould growth in the corner of the communal kitchen which was caused by damaged guttering allowing rainwater to flow down the wall. 

Mould associated with damp buildings is not only unsightly but can trigger nasal congestion, sneezing, coughing, wheezing, respiratory infections and worsen asthma and allergic conditions. 

Alongside the repair work to the gutters the mould was cleaned and the area sanitised to remove surface mould spores and help prevent further contamination. The area was painted with a mould resistant to help alleviate future mould growth.
